Weightlifting includes two different kind of lifting which are snatch and clean&jerk. Both exercises involve the bar rotating half a turn, from the floor up overhead. Snatches are performed with straight arms through the entire movement, from the floor to overhead. Clean&Jerk means a lift first up to the shoulders with a short pause and then over the head. These two lifts means that you’ll need a barbell where the weights can rotate. Therefore, needle bearings or ball bearings are preferred in a barbell for weightlifting.
